How would you describe Murder at Ardaig Castle in 3 words? 

Locked-in, sinister, thrilling.

If you could choose anyone to play the main characters in Murder At Ardaig Castle, who would you choose? 

Dr Stenqvist could be played by Toby Jones, if he grew a beard. Catherine could be played by Philippa Dunne (who plays Anne in Motherland).

What was the most random piece of research you had to do for your novel?

I had to create an imaginary castle, but one that could exist, so I visited a couple and spent a lot of time online looking at photos and plans of castles. I even rang the National Trust for Scotland and asked them to send me a number of guide books. 

With this being book 5 of DCI Lola Harris series, which was the most fun to write? 

This one, for sure! I just piled in all the elements of a detective story that I love: a locked environment, a storm, poison pen letters, footsteps in the night, a sinister cellar — oh, and murder!

Where do you think DCI Lola Harris would want to go next? 

I think Lola would like a holiday, actually. Somewhere quiet and warm with no murderers. However, I think she’s about to solve her most shocking case yet. Watch this space!
