A MESSAGE FROM JESSICA HUNTLEY

When did you know you wanted to be an author?

As soon as I could write! But when I was ten, my dad asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, and I told him I wanted to write books. I’ve had several careers so far in my life, but now, in my mid-thirties, I’ve finally made my childhood dreams come true.

Do you ever have any ‘pinch me’ moments?

All the time! I’ve attended a few book parties where authors and readers meet and greet, and when some readers approached me with a copy of my book, asking me to sign it and take a selfie with me, it was definitely one of the biggest ‘pinch me’ moments I’ve had. Plus, hearing my books in audio was also a massive moment for me. Next stop, a Netflix show! Ha! A girl can dream.

Are you a plotter or a pantser?

Mostly a panster, but since signing with traditional publishers, I’ve had to learn how to plot! It’s not my usual way of writing because all my self-published books I have made up as I go along, which I find more freeing and easier to do. I don’t always know when the twists will happen, but often they pop up out of the blue as I’m writing, so I’m just as shocked as the reader eventually is! I like free writing because the characters in my mind have their own idea of what they want to happen and I don’t like to put them in a box. Plotting a book before I write is very challenging for me.

What is your favourite book to read?

I’m a thriller girl through and through. Thrillers are 95% of what I read in some form or another, whether that be psychological, crime, suspense, mystery or a dab of horror. I love a good twisty thriller, and a slow burn too. Give me a Lucy Clarke or  John Marrs book and you probably won’t hear from me until I've finished it.

If Horrible Husbands was made for the screen, who would you love to play your leading ladies?

This question is always so hard to answer, but after some research, I think Kaya Scodelario as Holly, Kat Graham as Penny and Lily Collins as Lisa. I’d love to see Horrible Husbands on the big screen!
