TOP TEN TIPS FOR SUBMISSIONS FROM JASPER JOFFE

I know how much effort writers put into their books. So I wanted to give some tips on submitting your books to us and other publishers. We receive many brilliant submissions every day and we look at every single one of them. Forgive me if some of it sounds very obvious, but these tips are based on experience, and you never know what people might overlook!

1. Put something in the email. A blank email with an attachment often just gets deleted.

2. Spell the name of the company/person you’re submitting to correctly.

3. Read the submissions page, it will help! Do what it says more or less.

4. Press send once.

5. PDFs: Our readers look at promising submissions on their Kindles and a Word doc works much better.

6. Research the publisher. What are their best-selling books, what genres etc. Mention your research if it’s relevant (e.g. if your book is like one of theirs)

7. Say what genre it is, what other books it resembles, who will read it, and tell the story in one paragraph.

7. Check your spelling/write in punchy sentences.

9. Tell us briefly about what makes you you.

10. Keep it clear, short, simple.

11. Surprise bonus tip. Thank you very much for writing your book. It’s a wonderful thing to write a novel and you should be proud of yourself.
