QUICK FIRE QUESTIONS WITH EMMY ELLIS
Could you briefly introduce yourself? Introducing myself always makes me feel a bit of a wally because I never know what to say, but here goes . . . I’m fifty-one with five grown-up children, four grandchildren, and live in Nottinghamshire with my husband. I’ve been writing since I was a child and used to have a pen name or two in the romance genre. Crime has always been my first love, though, so I returned to that and have never looked back. I have no hobbies (unless reading counts), the only time I’ll exercise is to run away from having to do any kind of sport, but I enjoy spending time off with my husband because he’s my best friend. We tend to walk a lot on those days, so I suppose I do exercise really, don’t I? Don’t I? (haha)
What kind of thrillers do you love?I like knowing who the killer is from the start as their perspective in a book or film fascinates me. I tend to write that way, too, although I’m aware that’s not everyone’s cup of tea. I enjoy domestic thrillers, the weirder the better.
What are you currently reading? The Doctor’s Widow by Daniel Hurst.
Describe your series in three words. Secrets. Lies. Truth.
Who would you pick to play the main characters from your series? Sarah Lancashire and Stephen Graham.
What’s the most interesting thing you had to research for this series? The decomposition process over time (I always wonder whether one day I’ll get a knock on the door). Maggots and their lifespan. Pig behaviour/aggression.
