QUICK-FIRE QUESTIONS - CHRISTINA DELAY
Briefly introduce yourself
Hi, I’m Christina Delay! I write psychological thrillers about the secrets people hide, the lies they tell themselves, and how one choice can shatter everything. I’m endlessly fascinated by what makes people tick — the dark corners of relationships, the messy emotions, the hidden motives. If you love stories that make you question who you can trust and keep you turning pages late into the night, you’re in the right place.
What has been your writing journey from start to present?
Like so many writers, I started out as a reader — the kid who always had a book in her hand and a story brewing in her head. It took a lot of trial and error (and more unfinished drafts than I care to admit!) before I finally published my first thriller, The Best Friends. That book changed everything for me. It showed me that I could build twisty, emotional stories that hit readers right in the gut — and that’s been my goal with every book since. My latest, One Tiny Cry, might be my most emotional and unsettling story yet, and I can’t wait for you to read it.
Now we’re getting into spooky season do you start to get more ideas for your psychological thrillers?
Oh, 100%. There’s just something about this time of year — the cool nights, the long shadows, the feeling that anything could be hiding just out of sight — that makes my imagination spark. I find myself scribbling down “what if” scenarios constantly. But for me, every story still begins with something deeply human — fear, guilt, love, betrayal — and then I build the twists and tension around that.
What are some current books you would recommend?
I’m always reading (it’s basically a job requirement, right?). If you haven’t read None of This Is True by Lisa Jewell yet, it’s a must — dark, clever, and completely addictive. The Housemaid by Freida McFadden is another one I devoured in a single sitting. And for a classic “trust no one” domestic thriller, I still love The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena. All three will keep you guessing — and maybe sleeping with the lights on.
