AN INTRODUCTION FROM HEATHER PECK

Briefly introduce yourself

I studied zoology and comparative physiology at university, then worked in the Ministry of Agriculture/DEFRA on policy and emergency response while breeding sheep and alpacas in what was laughingly known as my spare time. After early retirement I chaired an NHS Trust and volunteered in Coastwatch, Citizens Advice, the Witness Service and as a Covid vaccinator. I live in a Norfolk village with my partner Gary, two dogs and two cats.

Briefly introduce Murder on the Norfolk Broads.

The discovery of a human skeleton in a long forgotten World War 2 bunker takes DI Greg Geldard from a remote farm in North Yorkshire to the Norfolk Broads, where deceptively placid waters hide a murderer, a victim and secret crimes that won’t go away. Nothing is simple.

What has been your writing journey so far?

I have written for fun all my life - everything from poems and songs to short stories and unfinished novels. In 2019 I took the Introduction to Crime Writing course run by the National Centre for Writing and the feedback was so encouraging I buckled down and wrote the book which is now Murder on the Norfolk Broads. Since then, I have written ten more books and three novellas in the Geldard series, a standalone thriller which won best crime book in the 2024 Page Turner Awards, and three books for children.

What can readers expect from the rest of the series?

Thrills, twists and turns — both in the mysteries that Greg investigates and in his personal life. Greg is human, so he’s flawed, but he’s also a man of warmth and integrity. I hope you enjoy getting to know him. I have!

What are you currently reading?

I have just finished Gisele Pelicot’s autobiography A Hymn to Life, and I’m about to start Berwick by L J Ross.
