A Q&A WITH JADE LEE WRIGHT
How does The Stolen Twin differ from your previous thrillers?
The Stolen Twin brings with it an emotional complexity. While my other books focus on secrets and lies, this book is about a mother living a nightmare. Her abducted child returns after 14 years and suddenly the little girl she's been pining for all along, she wishes never returned... and there's a guilt that comes with that. It's very psychological and dark.
Without giving away any spoilers, which scene was the most fun or satisfying to write?
Building that tension between Bella and Raven was a lot of fun, every interaction they have was so fun to write, using setting and tone to really deliver something that feels truly uncomfortable was great! I particularly loved writing a scene with Bella in the orchard late at night surrounded by rotting apples when Raven comes out from the shadows... I tried to make it as creepy and eerie as possible.
If you could describe this book in three words, what would they be?
Emotional, tense and horrifying.
Can you share a little about your writing routine while working on The Stolen Twin?
Being employed four days a week and a mum of two little boys, I write however and wherever I can. Stolen moments on car journeys, during 1am bottle feeds on the note’s app on my phone, in the evenings after dinner or in my lunch break at work! If you love it, you'll find time for it, no matter what!
